David Yurman Brand Profile

One of the brands we feature in our collection is the timeless David Yurman. American born designers, David and Sybil created this company in 1980. Before they met, both Yurmans shared a love of art, both fine and historical, and came together to create one of the most prominent designer jewelry brands in the United States. This love of art and design led them to collaborate on the brand, while simultaneously revolutionizing the industry, in more ways than one. It didn’t take long for the awards to start coming in. In fact, in 1981, just one year after they officially launched their business, David Yurman was awarded Designer of the Year by the Cultured Pearl Associations of America and Japan. Impressive right? However, this prestigious award was just the beginning of an empire-to-come.

Just one year later, in 1982, they created their signature Cable design. This unique shape and make of bracelets (and other pieces) would go on to be, arguably, the brand’s most iconic design. It has stood the test of time, and acts as the stylistic connection between their various collections released throughout the years.

For the next few years, the Yurmans perfected their style and image, while building towards their first brick and mortar boutique. This store was opened in 1999 on Madison Avenue in New York City. This first location would pave the way for dozens of locations down the road. David was born and raised in Brooklyn and spent time in Greenwich Village while he was developing his personal artistic style, so New York City just made sense. Seven short years later, David Yurman opened a flagship store on the famed Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. For decades Rodeo Drive has been a hub for high-end retail, acclaimed designers, as well as fame and celebrity. Not long after that, in 2010, David Yurman was celebrating their 30th year in business and decided to open another flagship store. This one, however, was back on Madison Ave. in New York City. And keeping on-pace, in the late 2010s, they began opening boutiques across the country. Starting in New Jersey, Texas, Colorado, and Florida, the designer jewelry brand launched itself into the mainstream.

Innovation, artistic vision, and timeless design have been staples of the David Yurman brand since its inception all the way back in 1980. They have multiple patents on their signature styles. One of which is their own signature diamond cut, the DY cut, which they were granted a patent for in 2017. Yurman was also the first major jeweler to set diamonds in silver. Innovation never stops.

As previously mentioned, the brand and its designers have been awarded throughout the jewelry industry for decades. Possibly the most impressive being the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award given by the American Gem Society (AGS). Not only is the AGS a top reference for prestigious jewelers, but this was the first time a jewelry designer was given this award. The David Yurman designs are distinct, powerful, creative, and seemingly always in style. From watches to bracelets, earrings, rings, and more, Yurman pieces are staples of every substantial jewelry collection in the states, and worldwide.
