Women's Guide to Wedding Bands

Wedding planning can be stressful, but choosing the wedding band doesn’t have to be! Choosing the perfect wedding band is a task that can be daunting if you are not sure what type and style of band will go with your engagement ring best according to your style and needs. Below are 4 tips to ease your wedding band shopping journey and a beginner's guide to the different styles of wedding bands! TIP #1 : Shop Early The first step when choosing a wedding band is to not wait until the last moment. Begin looking at least 6 months before your wedding date. This will allow for time to find your perfect ring and/or to customize it or resize it. Beginning your search early will also allow you to minimize the amount of stress you have over important pieces leading up to your wedding day. Spend some time looking on social media for wedding band examples that you like. Check out our Instagram page or Pinterest page for inspiration! Looking and comparing styles that others have used with a similar engagement ring will give you the opportunity to browse and see which examples of wedding bands best fits you and your ring. This should dictate the ring metal you choose. Do you have an active job or do you work an office job where you are working on a desktop? If you are someone that works with your hands a lot, a more scratch resistant, durable band would best fit you (like a channel set band). Also, take into account the different activities you participate like the gym, hiking/skiing, yard work, etc. and consider these tasks and whether you will wear your ring all the time or take it off for intense activities. Check out our Gym Buff's Guide to Jewelry Blog for tips and tricks for working out/physical activity and jewelry care! TIP #3: Weigh Your Options An important part of the wedding band journey is understanding your options! There are many metals to choose from. You could choose from white gold, rose gold, yellow gold and platinum to name a few common ring metal choices. You must also think about your current ring and jewelry style. Open Bands - Open Bands do not make a complete circle, but instead leave a small opening so that the band can sit flush with the engagement and they double as an adorable stackable diamond band! Classic Bands - Classic Wedding Bands are typically yellow gold, but can be white or rose gold and normally have no diamonds or very simple diamonds set in the band. Ring Guard Bands - Ring Guard/Double Band Rings allow the Engagement Ring to be put between the guard before being worn. This adds extra support to the ring AND makes the ring look even bigger and prettier by having bands both above and below the ring! Eternity Bands - Eternity Bands have diamonds or gems all the way around the circumference of the ring. They are not limited to any specific prong style or cut/shape of stone. Eternity Bands are beautiful, but it is important to keep in mind that the diamonds on underside of the ring will bump more things and the setting of the band needs to be one you feel is secure according to your day to day life and activity that could damaged the prongs/setting. Curved Bands - Curved Bands traditionally are made in a wishbone or V shape to compliment but not be overwhelming to a ring's style. It is believed that the curved, wishbone-shaped ring represents hope, wealth and fortune. Channel Set Band - This is one style that we want to point out so that you can think about the different settings besides prongs that may be more a durable, sophisticated ring style. This setting features side diamonds embedded into a grooved channel of the band. See picture to the right. Pave Bands - Pave Diamond Bands include a metal band with diamonds halfway around the band. There are many different kinds of pave bands including twisted and French Pave which can be seen in the blog cover photo and it makes a gorgeous V shape that compliments the diamond in the engagement ring. Crown or Nesting Bands - Crown Bands have become more popular throughout 2020 and 2021 because of the beautiful compliment they add to any ring. These are also perfect to use as a ring enhancer (makes the diamond in the ring look bigger) and it gives room to personalize and get creative to make your look unique to you! TIP #4 : Use Your Engagement Ring Bring your engagement ring to the jewelry store when shopping for your wedding band. This is very important because you want to make sure that your wedding band and engagement ring compliment each other when worn together. Though it’s good that engagement rings and wedding bands match, your wedding rings do not have to match your partner’s ring. This is a decision you both can make together. If you both love a traditional look, wearing similar bands will achieve this. But, if you both want a more fun option, you can find individual wedding bands that represent your unique, individual style! TIP #5 : Choose the Right Jeweler The next step to picking the perfect ring is choosing the right jeweler. None of the aforementioned wedding band tips matter if you do not use a jeweler you can trust. You should choose a jeweler with a passion for matching people with their dream jewelry pieces.
