Stuller Brand Profile

Stuller, Inc. came from humble beginnings. Like many small business owners, a passion was sparked in founder Matt Stuller, when he was just a teenager. In his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, Matt was walking downtown one day, and decided to step into a local jewelry store. While inside, he thought about purchasing a ring for his girlfriend. Without the proper funds available, he struck up a deal with the shop’s owner. By opening a ‘teen account’ Matt was able to work off the price of the ring by sweeping the showroom, cleaning windows, organizing inventory, and more. During his time spent working in the store, he began to form a bond with the bench jeweler who was working at the time. While sharing stories and industry knowledge, this jeweler sparked a deep passion for handcrafted jewelry and jewelry products in young Matt. Not long after his debt was paid off, Matt Stuller headed off to college. This proved to be a futile effort. He thought to himself, why sit through classes where professors told him about starting his own business, when he could set out and start one for himself. Soon after this, he managed to take over a small space in his father’s orthodontic office where he began crafting prongs, settings, and other jewelry-related items by hand. To appease his father, and himself, he loaded up a tackle box with items he had been working on, packed his bags, and set out in his Nissan 240z. He began traveling across the south and selling his products door-to-door. The main goal Matt had on this maiden voyage was to bring southern hospitality, exceptional service, top-quality product, and easy delivery to customers all over the American South. Along the way, he made a point to stop by the homes of prominent jewelry store owners in each town. Upon seeing his effort and ambition, these jewelers all purchased items from him which only fueled the fire within. Purchasing items they may, or may not have needed as a way to encourage Matt and reward him for all the sacrifices made. Over the years, these brief house calls turned into dinners and fishing trips. Once again, Matt was making lifelong business relationships that would benefit him greatly when he was finally able to open the Stuller, Inc. headquarters in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana in 1970. Since its inception, Stuller, Inc. has been changing the landscape and revolutionizing the way the jewelry industry operates. In 1972, Stuller began to offer toll-free ordering by telephone, becoming the first jewelry-related business to do so. Shortly after, in 1973, Stuller began to take ownership for their entire manufacturing process by fabricating their own metals. Business continued to hum along until 1982 when Stuller started offering overnight shipping from their facility in Louisiana. The sheer amount of orders being placed caused FedEx and UPS to send planes to Lafayette purely to handle the packages coming out of Stuller, Inc. each day. All of this innovation and destroying industry norms was happening before Stuller even launched their first line of finished fine jewelry; that wouldn’t happen until 1990. This collection of ring settings, bands, chains, and more was well-received by the rest of the industry. People loved the craftsmanship shown in this collection so much that Stuller began offering custom jewelry designs in 1995. Fully-customizable jewelry at fair prices, made well, and delivered within 5 business days was enough for customers. However, this only lasted for a brief time and was brought back in 2005. Amid all of this, Stuller, Inc. launched their first fully functional website in 1997. This was a massive step for their growing empire, because it gave customers the option to place orders online 24/7 from their inventory of over 200,000 products and still enjoy the quick fulfillment time that Stuller had become known for. Since then, Stuller, Inc. has gone on to open three more facilities: one in North America, one in Barcelona, and one in Bangkok. Across these expansions, Stuller employs over 1,000 people from bench jewelers, to sales teams. And throughout all of this continued growth, the values set by founder Matt Stuller still remain… “We exist to serve jewelry professionals through an unmatched selection of quality products, exceptional and friendly service, and the fastest delivery – making our customers the hero.” We, at Malak Jewelers, are proud to offer Stuller products. From settings and prongs, to necklaces, engagement rings, gemstones, and more, the Stuller brand is well-represented in our showroom and on our website. They seemingly never fail to deliver on their next-day shipping promises, and definitely never fall short of the standard of excellence set forth by their founder over 50 years ago.
